Frequently asked Questions:
Is belly Dance really for everyone?
Belly Dancing is for women of all ages, shapes and sizes -there is no specific look or shape. Belly Dancers are tall, short, thin, voluptuous, toned, curvy, you name it! Because we are all different, moves may look different on different dancers, don't compare yourself to other dancers. That is what is so wonderful about this dance form, we each add our own style and personality to our dance. This is a celebration of being women.
What do I wear to Class?
The best thing for class are clothes that are tight enough to show your movement, but loose enough that they won’t restrict your movements. A tank top (not an oversized baggy shirt), and yoga pants or something similar. The instructor should be able to see your movements and body position clearly. Dress in layers, you can get pretty warm.
We usually dance barefoot, but if you are not comfortable you may wear ballet slippers or other dance shoes (no street shoes or sneakers). A hip scarf or shawl is important as it clearly shows your hip movements and alignment. Coin scarves also add weight to movements, a great sound and are just fun.
Arriving to class:
Please arrive quietly if another class is in session, take a seat and wait quietly for your class to start. If you are a new student you will need to fill out a Registration Form. If you need to talk on your phone, or to another dancer, please do so outside the studio. Please turn off cell phones during class.
If you have questions about a movement - please speak up and ask the instructor, that is why I am here. Don't be shy and most of all: HAVE FUN! |
